Bernese News 15th August 2019

The Bernese entry for Scottish Kennel Club (SKC August) 2019 has been announced as 23 exhibits making 28 entries for all-rounder judge Margaret Wildman. CCs were not on offer at this show last year.

The Bernese entry for City of Birmingham Championship Show 2019 has been announced as 58 exhibits making 61 entries for all-rounder judge Rony Doedjins (Netherlands).

For comparison the entry at the 2018 show was 36 entries with 9 absentees for all-rounder judge Tom Johnson.

There's still time to enter the Northern BMD Club Open Show if you are quick!

Firstly I would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge at their show, the lunch was first class. The weather was very bad with the high winds causing a lot of noise under the tents making one or two dogs a little uneasy but on the whole they coped very well with the conditions.
Also thanks to my two stewards they were great everything went very smoothly and for keeping all the paperwork on the table with the help of the water bottles to hold it down.

The entry was low but I still had some lovely Bernese to go over, only one undershot bite but fronts are still a concern, too many with wide paddling action but I was pleased with my winners.

Minor Puppy Dog  (1 entry)
1st Bird's Cullumbern Milano.
8 months, nicely proportioned puppy. Good headpiece, nice dark eye, correct bite. Enough bone for size, good shoulder placement and nice bend of stifle. Movement very good for one so young, very easy true mover. Best Puppy.

Puppy Dog  (1)
1st Bridges' Kernow Easy Rider.
Another nice puppy and a big lad so needs more time to get his movement tightened up, just a bit untidy on the move. Good bone, nice proportions, head coming on.

Junior Dog  (2)
1st Miles' Jaybiem Modus Operandi.
16 months, still rather raw at this age but has lovely rear angulation and good shoulder placement.  Once settled he moved well, good topline and tail set. Head coming on, lovely dark ey,e good bite.
2nd Cotton's Kernow Billy No Mates At Jukesbern. 15 months, another boy that needs time. Good angulation, enough bone, level topline, good tail set. Little stuffy in neck and a little long in middle section.

Very close decision two lovely boys.

Post Graduate Dog  (2)
1st Flanagan's Collansues Magical Spell.
2nd Austen's Halesburn The Warriors.
This boy needed more meat on his bones, too lean which made him appear very rangy. Good angulation but close behind and paddley in front

Limit Dog  (1)
1st Bridges' Kernow Troubador.
Nearly 3, another good dog from this kennels, just not quite the outline of Yearling Dog but very nice angulation front and rear. Would like a bit more pro-sternum but moved with ease, good drive from the rear. Good tail set, good head and expression

Open Dog  (1)
1st Gurney's Monalou Russian Ambassador.
Nearly 6 and fully mature, the finished male. Correct proportions, lovely compact body, super bone.  Good angulation all through, lovely pro-sternum. Very pleasing head and kind expression, correct ear set, lovely dark eye. Would have liked a bit more enthusiasm on the move but sound and very worthy of the Dog CC and did wake up for the challenge and took Best of Breed.

Veteran Dog No entries

Special Beginners Dog or Bitch  (3)

14 months, very sweet head, feminine soft expression, kind dark eye. Little long in middle section.  Very sound mover, good angles front and rear, good tail set.
2nd Mrozowska's Lowenda Przyniose Ci Szczescie. (Imp Pol).  8 months, good dark eye, correct bite/. Level topline, good tail set but movement poor, very close front and back. Loose flews, low ear set, she looked very unsure.

Minor Puppy Bitch  (2)

8 months, good body shape, enough bone. Feminine head. Very calm for one so young, in the terrible conditions she moved very true and sound. Good front angulation and good rear bend of stifle
2nd Gerrard's Monalou Truly Scrumptious At Torralbaz.  7 months, she is full of promise and full of mischief but for the brief few seconds she settled on the move she was sound.  Good front and rear angulation. Nice feminine head coming.  Good topline and tail set, just needs time and plenty more ringcraft

1st Flanagan's Collansues Lexis Pot Of Gold.
20 months I really like this girl, she moves beautifully, very free gait, plenty of drive. She is a good size all through, good angulation plenty of bone. I would just like her foreface a tad broader, she has a lovely dark eye. Good topline and tail set.  Reserve CC
2nd Miles' Jaybiem Alia Lacta Est.
16 months, another very nice bitch. Close between 1st and 2nd, just preferred overall outline of 1st.  Good headpiece, correct bite, dark eye. Good topline and tail set, movement a little erratic

3rd Price's Silvretta Alpine Angel.

Post Graduate Bitch  (5, 3)
1st Gerrard's Monalou Contessa At Torralbaz.
28 months. Just my cup of tea, lovely girl. Super outline stood. Beautiful feminine head, kind eye, good ear set, correct bite. Good proportions, lovely shape all through. Plenty of bone for size but her movement was poor at the rear which let her down in the challenge.
2nd Flanagan's Collansues Precious Rock.  3 years, different type to 1st, more rangy. Not so together and on the move a bit wide in front, rear OK.  Good topline and tail set.

Limit Bitch  (8, 4)
1st King & Bramble's Shirdees Miss Congeniality.
3 years. Super girl, lovely shape, correct angulation front and rear which gives her excellent movement right through the gait and the best front in the class by far. Firm, level topline, correct tail set both held on the move. Very nice expression, dark almond shaped eye, good ear set, would just like a bit more width of foreface. Excellent well deserved Bitch CC and I hope its not long before she gains her title. Good luck!!
2nd Bird & Head's Cullumbern Roman Toga With Millermead.  Another lovely girl, very compact, evenly proportioned girl. Lovely bone. Very good head shape and expression, kind dark eye. Good bite, topline, and tail set. Going away good drive from rear but wide front coming towards
