BMD CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 22nd September 2018

Bitch Classes

It was a great honour to be invited to this show and it was a great pleasure to judge such a big event for Bernese Mountain Dogs. Thanks to my ring stewards for doing a great job and thanks to my colleague judge Jackie for taking me and my wife Merete around shopping and guiding us for several days.

I have over the years judged a lot of Bernese at shows all over the world and some faults you can see everywhere like a bit long noses and also quite a lot of round eyes. I also quite often comment a bit long in loin and flat croups. I also saw these faults at this show but still I must say I find the quality of your dogs to be very high compared to a lot of other countries I have judged the breed.

Puppy Bitch  (6 entries, 3 absent)
1st Baldwin’s Fortonpark Classic Design.
This was for me an excellent type. Harmonic and well balanced. Nice feminine well formed head for the age. Well angulated and moved and showed herself like a Bernese. Best Puppy Bitch and Reserve Best Puppy in Show.
2nd Bridges’ Kernow Rock Legacy. Also a well balanced girl with nice proportions. Good size and bones to the size. Nice head for the age. Like to see a bit longer neck and she could have had a bit more action in her rear movements.
3rd Gabrhcu & Fraser-Macnamara’s Vicky Codeli Girls. Nice type but she needs a bit time to tighten up a bit all over. Nice feminine head and expression. A bit overbuilt standing. Nice body and bones. Excellent mover.

Junior Bitch  (8, 2)
1st Gerrard’s Monalou Contessa At Torralbaz.
Excellent size, body and bones. Feminine expression. A bit long nose. Well angulated. Sound and typical movements. Excellent coat and well presented
2nd Gurney’s Monalou Cara Mia. Excellent size. Strong but feminine head. Good length in the body. A bit straight knee angulations and seem a bit overbuilt in action. Well presented.
3rd Baldwin’s Fortonpark Sez Im Classy.  Excellent size. A bit “strong” body. Like to see a stronger head with shorter muzzle and a bit more stop. Nice bones and well angulated in rear. A bit forward in shoulder. Nice coat and colour. Moves well seen from all sides.

Yearling Bitch  (8, 4)
1st Spencer’s Padiky Starr Studded Skye.
Excellent type and size. Well-formed head. Strong body and nice coat. Well angulated in rear. A bit forward and quite straight in her front. Moves well with good drive. Well presented
2nd Oakaby’s Iscabern Daffadowndilly. Feminine well built. Well formed head. A bit big blaze disturbs a little bit. Excellent body. Bones to the size. Well angulated. Needs to tighten up a bit all over. Nice coat.
3rd Flanagan’s Collansues Magical Potion. Good size and nice head. Nice body shape and good bones. Lacking a bit knee angulations and standing a bit overbuilt. Topline goes much better when she moves. Well presented.

Novice Bitch  (2, 1)
1st Marsden & Robertson’s Tickbern Valencia Avec Vellbern.
OK type but this girl needs a lot of ring training. Nice head and expression. A bit straight in the front. Needs time to develop. Sometimes she moves nice and she has a very sweet temperament.

1st Weston’s Bernfawr Jonquill.
Good size and nice proportions. Excellent head and nice eyes. Nice body and bones. Excellent and sound mover. Nice coat. Could do with a bit ring training.
2nd Flanagan’s Collansues Something Rosie. Nice size. Good head and expression. Could like to see a bit stronger underjaw. A bit straight in the upper arm. Sound mover.
3rd Knight’s Kernow Something Fancy. Nice size. Like to see a bit stronger head. A bit round eyes that also could be darker. A bit overbuilt standing but topline is better when she moves. Excellent coat and colour. Well presented.

Champion Bitch  (6, 3)
1st Baldwin’s Ch Fortonpark Dutch Delight.
An excellent champion who has the most I'm looking for. A bit round eyes and also the topline could be a bit straighter when standing. Otherwise an outstanding champion that moved like a Bernese should move. Bitch CC. Reserve Best in Show
2nd Atherton’s Ch Athersbern Peronelle Blush. Also an outstanding champion with a superb head and expression. She was my winner when she came into the ring. The reason I changed was I could like to see more powerful movements. Reserve CC.
