The penultimate set of 2019 CCs were on offer at Working and Pastoral Breeds of Scotland Championship Show held at Ingliston on Saturday and breed specialist Trish Goodyear (Harvestbank) made the long trip northwards to find 33 entries with 6 absentees across the 12 classes.

For comparison the entry at the 2018 show was 46 entries with 13 absentees for breed specialist judge Jane Keeves (Seveek).

Winning his second CC plus Best of Breed was Carole Hartley-Mair's homebred Meadowpark Talk About Class. Almost 19 months old, he is a son of the breed record holder Ch Meadowpark High Class x Ch Meadowpark Just A Dream. He then went on to win Working Group 2 under all-rounder Ann Ingram.

The Reserve Dog CC went to David and Jackie Benson's 4 1//2 year old Ir Ch Mapleridge The Dark Knight Of Bernervalley who recently gained his third UK CC. Bred by Joseph O'Callaghan, he is sired by Am Ch Alpenspirit Who's On First x Copy Paste From Berno Manua.

In Bitches it was a third CC for Julie Baldwin's Fortonpark Lilly's Delight.

The Reserve Bitch CC was won by Anne Gerrard's Monalou Contessa At Torralbaz. who is a 2 1/2 year old bred by Michele Gurney and sired by Ch Jean Valljean Della Torre Gentile x Ch Monalou Fanny Craddock JW. Anne also took home the Best Puppy award with Monalou Truly Scrumptious At Torralbaz who is a daughter of Kronblommas Yam-Yam x Monalou To Russia With Love and was also bred by Michele. Congratulations.

The judge's critique for this show can be found further down this column.

And so at the conclusion of this show we have another new Champion, subject to Kennel Club confirmation.

WORKING & PASTORAL BREEDS OF SCOTLAND CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 2nd November 2019

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the very hard working committee for inviting me to judge our wonderful breed at their well run show and for all the exhibitors for bringing their dogs . I found a great variation in type, some heads were long in muzzle and back skulls were equally as narrow . A few exhibits were a little reluctant for me to examine them which unfortunately cost them a place or perhaps a higher place in some classes. Dentition was good and also presentation.

Minor Puppy Dog  (1 entry)
1st King ‘s Bernershaw It Must Be Love.
At 7 months going through the ‘rangey’ stage, all legs and no body at the moment . Good dentition, head needs to develop. Moved well on the side gait but a little close behind going away. He is a big lad who needs plenty of time to fill his frame.

Puppy Dog   (2 entries, 1 absentee)
1st MacLeod‘s Torridonian Mr Solo.
Stood Alone. Lovely head on this young man, good bite and correct eye shape and colour. Broad, short muzzle. Compact body with strong bone and rich tan markings. Handler needs to watch he doesn’t pace but once the pup got into his stride moved well. Best Puppy Dog

Junior Dog  (1, 1)

Post Graduate Dog   (7, 1)
1st Addison’s Monalou Bollinger.
3 year old male of good breed type. Strong masculine head, good stop and broad short muzzle. Good reach of neck flowing into level topline and correct front angulation. Correct tail set and rounded croup. Moved out well.
2nd Dickson’s Monalou Rafael At Geruth.  Another strong male who was pretty much on a par with my winner but was carrying a little more weight and therefore was second best today.
3rd Hallam’s Napoleon Vom Durrbachler Wald At Waldershelf (Imp Nld)
Res Roberts & Seaman's Esslinbern Saruman
VHC MacDonald's Elnside Captain Fantastic

Limit Dog  (3)
1st Hartley-Mair ‘s Meadowpark Talk About Class
and Class he is. At only nineteen months this young dog ticks all the boxes which meet the breed standard . Strong, sturdy, active and alert. Strong masculine head with short broad muzzle and correct dentition. Lovely dark eye giving a super soft expression. Good reach of neck going into well laid shoulders. Level topline, correct tail set and rounded croup. Well bent stifle which gave him the drive from the back. Handled and presented in tip top condition. I was pleased to award him his second Dog CC and Best of Breed and was equally as pleased to see him gain Working Group 2. A credit to the breed and obviously following in his father’s footsteps .
2nd Bernemcourt Liv’n On A Prayer. A substantial male of five years. Handsome head with kind expression. Strong sturdy body on equally strong legs. Level topline which he kept on the move. To be critical I would have preferred more rear angulation. Presentation was superb.
3rd Miles & Ishaque ‘s Jaybiem Stan Innovation JW

Open Dog   (5, 1)
1st Benson’s Ir Ch Mapleridge The Dark Knight At Bernervalley.
Four year old male of good breed type, slightly longer caste than my Dog CC winner. Masculine head with correct dentition and eye colour and shape. Correct angulation which showed in his movement. Pleased to hear he gained his GB title at Midland Counties.  Reserve Dog CC.
2nd Hartley & Jones' Meadowpark Dream On. Another super male from this kennel and didn’t disappoint when going over him. Strong masculine head, good reach of neck and a well built body to give him overall balance. Moved well.
3rd Scott’s Welshbern One Vision At Scobern ShCM
Res King's Elnside The Grandmaster ShCM

Minor Puppy Bitch   (1)
1st Dobon’s Bernershaw Power Of Love.
Stood Alone. Litter sister to Minor Puppy Dog and going through a similar stage of development. Would prefer a little more bone and size however she moved out well for her sporting handler.

Puppy Bitch   (2, 1)
1st Gerrard’s Monalou Truly Scrumptious At Torralbaz.
Aptly named young lady of eleven months. Strong but feminine head with short broad muzzle. Correct body proportions which gave her overall balance. Moved out well. Best Puppy in Breed.

Post Graduate Bitch   (4)
1st Gerrard’s Monalou Contessa At Torralbaz.
Lovely breed type with strong feminine head. Good angulation throughout which showed in her positive movement. Correct body proportions, well boned legs and lovely rounded feet. Delighted to award her the Reserve Bitch CC.
2nd Baldwin’s Fortonpark Classic Design. A lovely make and shape this young bitch of just two years. Would prefer a little more size to her but has enough bone for size and the sweetest of expressions.
3rd Davidson’s Elnside A Game Of Shadows
Res Jeffries' Esslinbern Leia's Bliss

Limit Bitch   (3, 2)
1st McCormick’s Monalou Star Princess.
Stood alone in this class. Quality bitch of four years and of good breed type. Compact body on good boned legs. Strong but feminine head with correct dentition. Presented in good order and moved out well.

Open Bitch   (5, 1)
1st Baldwin’s Fortonpark Lilly’s Delight
and a delight to go over. Quality bitch who has all the right credentials to be a champion. Lovely head on good neck and shoulders, correct rear angulation which gave her the desired drive from the rear. Pleased to learn her Bitch CC gave her the crowning glory. Beautifully presented considering she has just come off maternal duties.Bitch CC .
2nd Marsden & Robertson’s Trudaleaze Majik Potion.
Unlucky to meet 1st today. A sound bitch with a lovely make and shape. To be critical I would prefer a stronger head with more width in skull and muzzle. However she was presented in wonderful condition and is a real credit to her owners
3rd Benson’s Ir Ch Bernervalley Summer Dream
Res Jeffries' Esslinbern Binda HipHop
Judge - Trish Goodyear (Harvestbank)
