READING & DISTRICT KENNEL ASSOCIATION OPEN SHOW 26th November 2016

Five lovely young Bernese. All exhibited a lovely temperament and appeared to be enjoying
their day. The size of the ring generally inhibited flowing movement and the chance to exhibit
the drive which is so essential to the breed, but you can only deal with what is available on
the day.

Puppy  (3 entries, 1 absentee)
1st Sutton & Davenport-Willis' Perfectproposal From Orsina's Land (Imp Slov).
 11 month
old bitch.  A feminine head with a good stop. Nice almond shaped dark eye. Good shoulder
placement with straight forelegs. Sufficient bend of stifle and maintains a good level topline
which presented a pleasing shape overall. Her coat was in excellent condition but she was not in
full bloom today which gave the impression of her being slightly long in body. Lovely distinct white
cross on her chest and four white feet finished off the appearance nicely. Moved steadily and at
times erratically but as the class progressed her movement improved. Moved well in the challenge
when she seemed to have settled more. Promising all round. Reserve Best of Breed, Best Puppy,
Puppy Group 3.
2nd King & Bramble’s Shirdees Leathal Weapon,
6 months old today male.  Handled at his first
very well. Well off for bone. Standing he presents a well balanced shape with good bend of stifle
and a good level topline. Nice white cross on his chest and four white feet. His movement was a
little erratic which is only to be expected at this young age and at his first show. Very promising.

Graduate  (3, 1)
1st Vaychkus & Vaickus’ Blue Aira Bernenskie Ranczo JW (Imp Pl).
17 month old bitch. Nice
strong head with a flat skull and well defined stop. I would prefer her eyes to be slightly darker.
Good shoulder placement with straight forelegs. Good bend of stifle and although she presents
a nice shape on the stand she appears slightly long in body. Nice white cross on her chest and
four white feet. She kept a good topline on the move but carried her tail slightly high today. Didn't
provide the drive from the rear that I was hoping to see. Well presented and obviously very at one
with her handler.
2nd King & Bramble’s Shirdees Miss Congeniality.  6 months old today bitch, litter sister to the
2nd in Puppy and similarly handled her debut well. (I assume the siblings were kept apart to help
them concentrate on the task at hand, which worked.) Slightly rounder in eye than ideal but a pretty,
feminine head. Good bone and good bend of stifle providing a nice overall shape on the stand,
just slightly bum high at present. She has a lovely long tail. Moved steadily. Promising.

Open  (5, 4)
1st Rothery’s Glamrock Graffiti Artist.
2 year old male.  Very impressive dog. A good, strong,
masculine, handsome head with lovely almond shaped dark eyes.  Very good strong bone
throughout. Long shoulders with strong and sloping upper arms, good straight forelegs with
slightly flexed pasterns. Adequate bend of stifle presenting a very impressive appearance in the
stand with a level topline. His white markings are subtle and not overpowering. He is very obviously
a male. His movement today was a little disappointing as he did not or was not able to exhibit the
drive that his stature suggests is there. He had a habit of looking at his handler which threw him
off slightly at the front and without the drive he was close at the back, but he moved out well enough
and kept a good level topline with a good tail carriage. His greater maturity in stature and movement
saw him take Best of Breed. Group 3.
