Bernese News 12th December 2017

Organiser Jackie Green had hoped to have made the draw for the Bumper Raffle in aid of
Bernese Welfare UK at LKA last Saturday but poor weather resulted in a very low attendance
Apologies for any disappointment but the prizes really are worth waiting for!  Jackie tells me that
"plan B" is to make the draw at Manchester Championship show which will be held at Staffordshire
County Showground ST18 0BD on 20th January 2018.

Thank you to all who have already purchased tickets, your support is much appreciated.
A few tickets may be available for purchase on the day of the draw.

Lively weather (!) preceded LKA, the final Championship show of the year.  Forecast of a wintry
blast in many areas across the country changed some of our landscape into a Christmas card image
but for exhibitors and visitors who had planned to travel to the show is was just another potential
complication to consider.  Judging in all rings was delayed for 15 minutes to allow for traffic hold-ups
but all-rounder judge Jeff Luscott, who had attracted 90 entries, had a depleted attendance due to
there being 33 absentees.  I'm told that ringside spectators were also few and far between.

Winning his 34th CC plus Best of Breed was Carole Hartley-Mair and Gary Dybdall's Ch Meadowpark
High Class, the Reserve CC going to Shandy Bridges and Karen Bird's Ch Kernow Something ShCM.
Bred by Shandy, he is 3 years old and sired by Ch Shirdees Love Me Do At Cullumbern JW ShCM
x Kernow Uptou.

In bitches it was a third CC for Gary Griffiths, Mandy Orme and Violet Slade's Jaybiem Vou Doo At
Potterspride JW and she was also declared Best Veteran.

Trish Goodyear won the Reserve Bitch CC with her 4 year old homebred  Harvestbank Fields Of
Gold JW ShCM who is by Ch Glamrock Ballroom Blitz By Glebrienz x Ch Harvestbank Chantilly
Lace JW ShCM.

Best Puppy was awarded to Michele Gurney's homebred Monalou Italian Secret who is 8 months old,
sired by Ch Jean Valjean Della Torre Gentile x Ch Monalou Fanny Craddock JW..  Later in the day
'Milo' won Working Group 1 under all-rounder judge Mrs Renee Spore-Willes (Sweden).
Congratulations.

This show made history for both CC winners.

Having won his 34th CC, Ch Meadowpark High Class has now equalled the previous breed record
for a male Bernese in the UK.

Born on 14th January 2015, 'Milo' was bred by Bernice Mair and Carole Hartley-Mair.
Sire; Ch Meadowpark Vertigo JW (Ch Jaybiem Utwo JW ShCM x Meadowpark Sugar's Diva)
Dam; Meadowpark Northern Blend (Ch Tangyachates Beachcomber x Meadowpark Northern
Blend).

'Milo' won his first CC from Meg Purnell-Carpenter at Manchester 2016 resigning his sire to the
Reserve CC on that day.
His 2nd CC was awarded by Britt Marie Young at Working & Pastoral Breeds of Wales 2016,
topping that day off by winning Working Group 1 and then went on to take Best in Show.
His 3rd CC and title came from Jeff Horswell at Birmingham National 2016.

There were 28 sets of CCs available for Bernese in 2016 and Milo had accrued 13 of those Dog CCs
under his belt by the end of that year.

Another 28 sets of CCs were available to Bernese in 2017 and Milo won 20 of those Dog CCs and
in addition the Kennel Club subsequently awarded him the CC from LKA 2015 bringing his total to
34 CCs at the end of this year (and notably before his third birthday).

Milo has also achieved unprecedented success for our breed in the UK Championship Show breed
and Group rings at all-breed or Group Championship Shows with his numerous Group placings, 10
Group wins plus three Best in Show and one Reserve Best in Show. As I write this Milo is listed 2nd
in the current league table for all breeds in the UK.

The UK male Bernese breed record was previously held by Ch Carlacot Fido.
Born on 24th February 1985 he was bred by Julie Vaughan.
Sire; Carlacot Candyman (Ch Jumbo v Waldacker At Coliburn Swiss import x Ch Carlacot Amalia).
Dam;  Glanzberg Kirsch Of Carlacot (Sw & Nord Ch Glanzberg Caradus x Hiska v Nesselacker Of
Glanzberg Swiss import).

There were 24 sets of CCs on offer during 1986 and 'Fido' won his first CC from Bill Foster at
Birmingham National 1986, his second from Brenda Griffiths at Crufts 1987 and gained his third CC
and title at Working Breeds of Wales 1987 under Gill Sharman.

Fido won his 34th and final CC from Ferelith Hamilton at Working Breeds of Wales 1993 by which
time 32 sets of tickets were allocated annually for our breed.

And so, following her win at LKA,  we also have another new breed Champion too, subject to
Kennel Club confirmation.

Jaybiem Vou Doo At Potterspride JW
Born; 10th September 2010
Breeder; June Miles
Owners; Gary Griffiths,
Many Orme and Violet Slade.
Sire; Ch Jaybiem Utwo JW ShCM
Dam; Jaybiem Commen T'ally Vous.'

Dolly's notable achievements include;

Junior Warrant Certificate

Reserve CC from Frank Wildman at LKA 2015
CC from Jeannette Green at Southern Counties 2015
C from Steve Green at Paignton 2016
CC from Jeff Luscott  at LKA 2017.

After LKA joint owner Violet Slade wrote to me;

"I had her HD scored 3:3, shoulders 0:0. Never bred her. I gave her to Gary and Mandy as a gift.
She had a CC and was so fit and well. I needed surgery for the side effects of the blood cancer
so I just felt they needed her to friend their dog who wouldn't eat; he was heartbroken, missing
his companion dog who died young. It has been an incredibly good life for Dolly."
