The cold snap really began to bite hard last weekend leaving the exhibitors at the Southern
BMD Club Open Show cold in body but warm in spirit and camaraderie.  Held at the Mole Barn
at Leatherhead Leisure Centre, the judge this year was breed specialist Silvia Schmocker from
the Netherlands who is well known for her Burgseeli Bernese and Newfoundlands.

There were 56 exhibits giving 71 entries with 19 absentees and 3 withdrawn plus 14 entered
Not For Competition.

Best Dog and Best in Show was awarded to Olga Vaychkus & Arunas Vaickus' Lithuanian import
Flintas Kalnu Suo who is 3 1/2 years old, sired by Margarita Nigra Lord Lancelot x Mona Svelnumas
and bred by Irmantas Tamauskas.

The Reserve Best Dog was Karen Bird's 2 1/2 year old Kernow Something, bred by Shandy
Bridges. A son of Karen's Ch Shirdees Love Me Do At Cullumbern JW ShCM he is out of Kernow

The Best Puppy Dog winner was Shirley King & Julie Bramble's homebred Shirdees Leathal 
Weapon. 8 1/2 months old he is sired by Ch Meadowpark High Class x Shirdees Chevrolet.

Best Veteran Dog went to Helena Turner's 8 year old homebred Ch Tangyachates Beachcomber,
a son of Ch, Ir Ch Bernemcourt Sirocco ShCM x Tangyachates Whisper To Me.

Trevor & Joanne Sutton's homebred  Ch Bernsteph Dior Remember Me JW ShCM was Best Bitch
and Reserve Best in Show.  She is a daughter of Tickbern Over The Moon x Sennensson Nina
Ricci At Bernsteph and is 4 years old.

June Miles took home the Reserve BestBitch award with her homebred Jaybiem Burli Shassi
who is almost 13 months old. Sired by Ch Jaybiem Yeuben Chozen JW ShCM x Ch Meadowpark
Sweetest Thing. June also collected the Best Bitch Puppy and Best Puppy in Show awards with
another homebred youngster, homebred Jaybiem My My My who is 8 months old and sired by
Ch Meadowpark Vertigo JW ShCM x Save Dallas Kiss For Jaybiem.

Best Veteran Bitch and Best Veteran in Show went to Sandy Rothery's homebred Glamrock
Future Legend. Nearing 9 years old, she is sired by Monalou Touch Of Dutch To Glenbrienz ShCM
x Glamrock Spirit Of Youth.  Congratulations.


The Bernese entry for Crufts 2017 has been announced as;
219 exhibits (106 dogs  + 113 bitches) giving 244 entries (119 dogs + 125 bitches).

Judging will take place at the NEC on Sunday 12th March 2017 in Hall 5, Ring 30  starting at 8am.  

The judge this year is breed specialist Helen McAulay (Elnside) 

For comparison at Crufts 2016 there were 246 entries (114 dogs with 9 absentees + 132 bitches
with 31 absentees) for breed specialist judge Jane Lamb (Bernalpen).
