Bernese News 23rd January 2019

The first set of CCs for 2019 were on offer to Bernese at Manchester Championship show held last Sunday at Staffordshire County Showground. With much of the country experiencing cold temperatures and some locations receiving a smattering of snow over the weekend, all-rounder judge Dave Killilea found 51 entries with 8 absentees across 14 classes.

For comparison, at the 2018 show there were 95 entries with 28 absentees across 14 classes for breed specialist judge Joanne Sutton (Bernsteph).

The Dog CC and Best of Breed was awarded to Julie Baldwin's 3 1/2 year old Meadowpark First Class For Fortonpark JW who was bred by Carole Hartley-Mair and the late Bernice Mair and sired by Ch Meadowpark Vertigo JW x Meadowpark One Lover. Reuben then went on to take Working Group 3 under all-rounder Irene McManus.

The Reserve Dog CC went to Carole Hartley-Mair and Gary Dybdall's homebred Meadowpark Talk About Class who is a 9 month old son of Ch Meadowpark High Class x Ch Meadowpark Just A Dream.

Carole and Gary also won Best Puppy with their homebred Meadowpark Voulez Vous, another 9 month old daughter of Ch Meadowpark High Class (Milo) x Swedish import Tjofselinas Marylin Monroe. She went on to take Working Puppy Group 3 under all-rounder Liz Stannard.

Topping the Bitches with what I believe is her first CC was Carole's homebred Meadowpark Touch Of Class. A couple of day short of 19 months old she is also a daughter of Milo x Ch Meadowpark Breezing On.

Sharon Watson's Stepdashar Sommer Girl collected the Reserve Bitch CC. Homebred, she is 5 1/2 years old and sired by Ch Tangyachates Beachcomber x Jezmona Una.

Best Veteran was awarded to Michele Gurney's homebred Ch Monalou Fanny Craddock JW who is 7 1/2 years old and sired by Ch Bernerdalens Uno Amigo Bueno x Ch Monalou Perfect Recipe. Congratulations.

LKA CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 15th December 2018

Thank you for the opportunity to judge this show, again I found on a whole that my PRINCIPAL winners were good examples of the breed but very disappointed with the quality of the rest of the breed especially the youngsters; if this is what's coming through for the future it doesn't look too great. Movement is erratic, lack of bone and substance and quite a few shy ones.
