Bernese News 15th July 2015


Ch Meadowpark Vertigo JW, aka "George" is currently ranked Top Bernese, Top Working
Dog and in joint sixth place all breeds in the Dog World/Arden Grange rankings. 
Lee Reynolds & Lynn Atkinson's Meadowpark Secret Blend is Top Bernese Puppy and 
Meadowpark are currently top Bernese Breeder at the half way stage of the Our Dogs


The Bernese entry for Leeds Championship Show 2015 has been announced as;
75 exhibits giving 73 entries entries for all-rounder judge Tom Johnston

For comparison the entry at Leeds 2014 was;
70 entries with 4 absentees for all-rounder judge Ben Reynolds-Frost.  


The hot weather continued for National Working & Pastoral Breeds Championship Show where
breed specialist judge Tony Granger  (Shadybower) had 74 entries with 13 absentees across
11 classes.

The Dog CC, his second, was awarded to Gary Griffiths, Mandy Orme and June Miles' Jaybiem
Yeuben Chozen JW.  Bred by June, he is 3 years old and by by Duntiblae Brave Protector Of
Otherton x Ch Jaybiem Ikea JW. 

June also won Best Veteran with Ch Jaybiem Utwo JW ShCM. Now 7 years old he is by
Jaybiem Cutting H'edge For Helvetia x Ch Jaybiem Invu JW. 

The Reserve CC was won by was Shirley King & Julie Brambles' homebred Shirdees 
Continental JW ShCM, a 3 year old sired by Ch Jaybiem Innu Endo JW ShCM x Shirdees
Bobby's Girl. 

In Bitches it was a 7th CC plus Best of Breed for Leena Pawlyszyn's 5 year old Ch Materabern
Disco Diva.  Sired by Ch Chyburne Classy Luka x Materabern Cha Cha Cha, she was bred by
Kathy Pawlyszyn. 

The Reserve CC went to Jackie Shopland-Reed's Spanish import Fleur De Neboa De Meigas, 
a  2 year old bred by Diana Martinez-Ruiz and sired by Daevaels Explorer x Arwen De Neboa
De Meigas.  

Ruth Dickson's Monalou Vino Verde At Geruth took Best Puppy.  Bred by Michele Gurney he 
is by Ned Ch Yoyo Van't Rijkenspark x Monalou It's Marlene.


Although we no longer have CCs at East of England, that show is still very popular with
exhibitors as there were 41 entries with 10 absentees for all-rounder judge Toni Jackson

Best Dog and Best of Breed went to Martin & Donna Blenkinsopp's Hungarian import
Mountain Crystal Don't Forget Me At Thiesbern, Best Bitch to Trish Goodyear's Harvestbank
Fields Of Gold and Best Puppy was Tony & Pam Mead's Deberni Lucky.


Keeping our dogs cool in hot weather is a priority for most of us and the record-breaking
temperatures we have experienced recently are a real challenge!.  There are many items and 
bits of kit available nowadays such as cooling collars, cooling coats and cooling mats etc.,
designed to help our dogs remain comfortable but these items should always be used in tandem
with sensible management practices such as keeping our dogs calm, cool and shaded and
being extra careful with feeding and drinking regimes too. 

This week I heard of a Bernese who was hospitalised due to severe heatstroke as his owner
had Mistakenly believed that exercise in the full, searing heat of the day was not a risk as the
dog was wearing his cooling coat.   The dog was lucky to survive.
