Bernese News 13th July 2017

I am glad to report that ' Beluga' the Bernese
who went missing in Scotland has been reunited
with his family.  Holidaying with, I am led to believe, the Matthews family near Portincaple,
hamlet in Argyl and Bute,  Beluga had taken flight whilst on a walk on 4th July and although there
were a few sightings of him locally during the following days at the roadside and on a beach it was
a full five days before he was found and reunited with his owners.

I understand Beluga is no worse for wear after going AWOL so another very lucky and happy
conclusion to a very worrying scenario that all dogs owners fear.

It is on ongoing source of frustration for me, and I'm sure of some others too who receive any
regular volume of puppy referral enquiries, that so many potential Bernese owners are unaware of,
or uninterested in trying to avoid the pitfalls and problems associated with obtaining a Bernese or
trying to avoid any of the more dubious folk who deal in them to which buyers may so easily fall foul.
Time and time again I am dismayed that the majority of enquirers have merely "searched" (albeit a
minimal search) the Internet and the immediate availability (or lack) of Bernese puppies is the ONLY
thing that concerns them.

Those who have found some of the more dubious online Links and contacts seem to be so easily
seduced by the self-promotional sales patter employed by the usual suspects.  The persuasive
conversational skills plus the wording employed by some owners/breeders/dealers on their websites
and via Groups and social media is nothing short of misleading, For example; some of the brags
made about show ring achievements on some websites is interpreted by those uninformed enquirers
as confirmation that the dogs are super-duper examples of the breed and have been creating an
enviable storm in the show ring when the reality is a VERY damp squib of mediocre dogs winning
mostly minor placings (usually by default) which are then boasted about out of context!

IF ONLY more enquirers would realise they are prime targets of being taken advantage of by the
unscrupulous unless they arm themselves with facts and knowledge obtained from proven and
reliable sources.  Seeking and following relevant, hepful advice will expose the sort of cock-eyed
"guidance" that is relentlessly spewed out by those usual suspects who are often ignorant attention
seekers only interested in glorifying themselves and promoting their network of friends!
