Leeds Championship Show 2018 held yesterday (Sunday) was very wet but at least the rain cooled things down from the extremely high, and in some places unbearable, temperatures that roasted parts of the UK just a few days before.

Breed specialist judge Linda Stephenson (Durrbach) found 40 entries with 4 absentees and one placing withheld across 15 classes which were judged under canvass.

The Dog CC plus Best of Breed went to Carole Hartley-Mair and Gary Dybdall's 3 1/2 year old homebred Ch Meadowpark High Class, bringing him to 43 CCs. His son, Carraigbern Lasting Impression For Meadowpark won Best Puppy. Bred by Valerie Hughes in Ireland and born on Christmas day, he is out of the USA import Ir Ch Werlwind's Celtic Dream For Carraigbern.

In Bitches it was first a CC plus Best Veteran for Esther-Ann McCormick's 7 year old Monalou Artic Queen. Bred by Michele Gurney, she is sired by Ch Bernerdalens Uno Amigo Bueno x Ch Monalou Little Miss Swiss.

Di and Mike Atherton's homebred Ch Athersbern Peronelle Blush took the Reserve CC. 6 years old she is a daughter of Ch Monalou Dutch Courage x Athersbern Affinity. Congratulations.

"This artist's hilariously accurate dog breed descriptions will make your day"

I was saddened to see the "description" of Bernese included in this next news story and hope that anyone considering acquiring ANY dog understands that EVERY dog requires a lot of time and care from the owner and that they research information on our breed from well- informed sources!

Post Graduate Dog or Bitch  (2 entries)
1st Perks' Kernow Festive Buzz.
A male just reaching maturity and showed so very well free-standing. He is well off for bone and has a good chest. He has a pleasing head with a strong muzzle and good eyes. I would prefer slightly more rear angulation but he moved well in all directions.
2nd Wilson’s Blumental Jack Jones. A young male who still has time on his side to mature. He has a good head and expression. Not as balanced as the winner and another who needs to have more bend of stifle. Did not move as well as the winner.

Open Dog or Bitch  (3 entries, 1 absentee)
1st Fairclough’s Monalou Spirit Of Discovery ShCM.
A very impressive male who has strength throughout. He is well off for bone, lovely straight front legs with the correct compact feet. He is broad in the chest and good depth to body. He is balanced on the move and moved well in all directions. Pleased to award him Best of Breed and Working Group 4.
2nd Perks’ Bernfawr Hot Spice. A mature lady who has a pleasing head and kind expression. Was finding it too warm today to give her best in the show ring.
