Bernese News 14th June 2017

The Championship Shows are rolling out thick and fast now and what an impression Bernese
made at Three Counties!

All-rounder judge Keith Baldwin had attracted 68 entries with 13 absentees across the 10 classes.

Carole Hartley-Mair and Gary Dybdall's homebred Ch Meadowpark High Class (Ch Meadowpark
Vertigo JW x Meadowpark Northern Blend) took the Dog CC and Best of Breed.  The same
owners also won the Bitch CC, her 8th, with their 4 year old Ch Meadowpark Just A Dream who
is a daughter of Ch Tjofselinas Z Diamuz At Fortonpark (Imp Swe) x Ch Meadowpark Living The
Dream JW.

The Reserve Dog CC went to Sandy Rothery's homebred Glamrock Graffiti Artist. Almost 3 years
old, he is a son of Ch Jaybiem Utwo JW ShCM x Glamrock Midnight Raver.

Olga Vaychkus and Arunas Vaickus' 2 year old Blue Aira Bernenskie Ranczo JW was awarded
the Reserve Bitch CC.  Bred in Poland by Jacek Janiszewski, she is sired by Mountain Crystal
Extra River x ZZ Top Bernenskie Laki.

Best Puppy went to Diana and Paige Spencer's homebred Padiky Star Studded Skye, a 7 1/2
month old bitch who is sired by Polish Ch Star Is Coming Z Deikowej Doliny x Waldershelf Ethels
Way At Padiky JW ShCM.

After the breed judging, High Class went on to win the Working Group under Tan Nagreecha, then
the Champion Stakes under Andrew Brace and then returned on the final day of the show to triumph
by winning Best in Show under Moray Armstrong.  Steered by Carole and Gary and not yet 2 1/2
years old, what a fantastic show career this excellent young dog is enjoying with 19 CCs already
under his belt and being no stranger to multiple placings  in the Group rings. This is the second
Best in Show award for 'Milo' at a UK general or Group Championship Show, the previous win
was at Working & Pastoral Breeds of Wales last year. What a great ambassador for our breed this
young dog is. Congratulations.

Winning Best in Show at a UK General or Group Championship Show is a rare occurrence but a
few Bernese have triumphed at these events, as listed below;

1996 at Three Counties ~ Doreen Edmunds' Ch Hildrek Jonquil

2006 at National Working & Pastoral Breeds ~ June Thew's Ch Bernsteph Versace

2011 at Windsor ~ Teresa & Steven Nightingale Ch Manisla Ebony Dusk

2016 at Working & Pastoral Breeds of Wales ~ Carole Hartley-Mair and Gary Dybdall's
Ch Meadowpark High Class

2017 at Three Counties ~ Carole Hartley-Mair and Gary Dybdall's Ch Meadowpark High Class

Chris Handley has sent a donation of £36.45 to Bernese Welfare UK. I believe this is the result
of a fundraiser held at the Lincoln Bernese Worldwide Walk which I think was held in April.  Many
thanks to the organisers and those generous folk who donated to help Bernese less fortunate than
their own.

Special Champion Award class.

I felt very honoured to be given the privilege of judging their lovely champions.  My thanks to the
committee for giving me this opportunity and the exhibitors for accepting my placings so graciously.

1st Atherton's Ch Athersbern Peronelle Blush. This beautifully proportioned five year old bitch
caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Lovely feminine head with dark eye and happy
expression, clearly enjoying her day out.  Good depth of rib and strong bone. Moved fluently around
the ring. Shown in superb condition and her owner got the very best from this lovely girl.
2nd Baldwin's Ch Guiness Record From Christofland To Fortonpark (Imp Cze). A well put
together 3 year old dog with a lovely masculine head with dark eye and nice expression. Good width
of chest and depth of rib. Sturdy bone with substance. Moved with drive. Lovely temperament.
3rd Baldwin's Ch Meadowpark Living My Dream At Fortonpark.
Res Sutton's Ch Bernsteph Dior Remember Me JW ShCM.

1st Bird & Head's Cullumbern Roman Toga With Millermead.
8 month old bitch just settling
into the show scene. Presented well and was at one with the handler on the move with a level
topline. Need to work on the standing but this will come in time with age and experience.  In all,
a well-bodied sturdy girl with well-placed shoulders, lovely expression, correct bite, nice rear
angulation and good tail length, she looks promising for the future. Awarded Best Puppy.

1st King & Bramble's Shirdees Miss Congeniality.
12 month old bitch who was very striking
and catches your eye when both stood and on the move. Good amount of bone and in good
proportions for this age, great angulation both front and rear and moved easily around the ring
with handler. Kind expression, correct almond shaped and dark eyes, correct bite and head
developing nicely. This bitch has a great future ahead of her and will challenge the best of the
best I am sure. Awarded Best of Breed.
2nd Vaychkus & Vaickus' Blue Aira Bernenskie Ranczo JW (Imp Pol). 24 month old strong
and well-proportioned bitch who is of great type. Good strong head and expression with a lovely
ear set. Great front and rear angulation but a particularly strong back-end which you can see
really drives the free movement of this bitch around the ring. Handled and presented well. I believe
after a bit more maturity this bitch will have a bright future.

1st Bird's Kernow Let It Be At Cullumbern JW.
2 1/2 year-old bitch in brilliant coat on the day
with good bone and a compact, thick-set build which is pleasing; you can see she is reaching
maturity now. Level topline on the move and moved freely with handler around the ring with ease.
Good head, nice angulations, well ribbed with broad back. Awarded Reserve Best of Breed.
2nd Vaychkus & Vaickus' Flintas Kalnu Suo at Bernaroso (Imp Lith).  3 1/2 year old large,
typey, well bodied male in good coat with very attractive head, lovely expression and dark eye.
Good bone for size with well-placed shoulders, good depth of chest and straight front. Level topline
on move and moved with ease with handler around the ring. Not long until he will start challenging
for top prizes.
