Bernese 17th June 2018

Always a pleasure for me to judge this breed, lovely to look at and beautiful natures. I have to say that there are some very good movers and good front actions - a rarity in some breeds. However, I felt that quite a few dogs were carrying too much weight - fat is not substance - and often their toplines and movement suffered because of this excess weight. Many thanks to my stewards, Linda Cooper and David Milnes.

Puppy Dog (1 entry, 1 absentee)

Junior Dog (2 entries)
1st Green's Matthias' Durrbachler Wald At Waldershelf (Imp Nld).
14 months, lovely young dog of excellent proportions and a very good mover, well boned with good chest and ribbing. Very good head and eye. Ccarried himself well with firm topline, impressed me a lot and I think he will have a very good future and was not far from the top today.
2nd Cooke & Stevens' Tickbern Vagabond. 13 months, slightly smaller dog with excellent bone and a beautiful head and eye. Slightly straight in shoulder but with excellent upper arm, good mover. Not as firm in topline or as finished in chest as the winner.

Post Graduate Dog (5, 2)
1st Joseph Vom Durrbachler Wald At Arvella (Imp Nld).
21 months. Comfortable winner of this class. I'd prefer him with just a touch more leg to balance him but is full of type and with very good hocks and firm rear action. Good head and eye. Can firm a little in front.
2nd Butcher's Arvella Penny Pincher At Jenzobern. 22 months, of good proportions, has good substance and a firm rear. Eyes could be darker. A little wide in front action, high tail carriage detracts.
3rd Knight's Cullumbern Roman Road At Kernow.

Limit Dog (2, 1)
1st Baldwin's Meadowpark First Class For Fortonpark JW.
2 years, a very good mover which comes from excellent angulation at both ends. Good head and eye. Strong bone, a little lax for balance. I'd prefer a little more slope to the croup but he is full of quality. Won Reserve CC on maturity over the junior dog who pressed hard.

Open Dog (5)
1st Hartley-Mair & Dybdall's Ch Meadowpark High Class.
3 years, good winner of the class for his excellent movement and bone. I would prefer a little more body and shorter couplings. Masculine head, good eye, very light on his feet with long, accurate stride and firm topline. CC and Best of Breed.
2nd Cooke & Stevens' Tickbern Ridin High. 4 years, smaller dog who is very well constructed and with a beautiful head and eye. Good mover but topline a little soft.
3rd Bird & Bridges' Ch Ch Kernow Something ShCM.

Puppy Bitch (3, 1)
1st Baldwin's Fortonpark Sez I'm Classy.
9 months, lovely proportions and topline. Sound in action, well ribbed back with good couplings. Feminine head which needs time to finish, scored in topline to take Best Puppy.
2nd Hartley-Mair's Meadowpark Touch Of Class.
Almost 12 months, free striding and was more forward in the head than the winner. Soft in topline on the day.

Junior Bitch (5, 2)
1st Green's Waldershelf Much Luv Martha.
15 months, lovely type and with good proportions, well ribbed back. Excellent coat and colours. Good head proportions. I'd prefer a little more layback of upper arm but she uses herself well on the move and has excellent profile movement and carriage. A good prospect.
2nd Goodyear's Harvestbank Indian Summer. 14 months, good size and bone and ribbing but carrying a little too much weight which shows in her front action and topline.
3rd Oakaby's Iscabern Daffadowndilly.

Post Graduate Bitch (11, 4)
1st Flanagan's Collansues Precious Rock
. 18 months, took my eye for her mouth, wonderful reach and drive and topline. Feminine quality bitch with lovely head. Well made throughout, sufficient bone, not yet fully developed in body but she appealed greatly and should have a good future.
2nd Miles' Jaybiem My My My. 2 years, scoring in her bone and big ribs and also a good mover but not quite the drive in rear. Another very good bitch who pressed the winner hard as she was more forward in rib and body, full of type.
3rd Bird & Head's Cullumbern's Roman Toga With Millermead JW.

Limit Bitch (9, 2)
1st Baldwin's Fortonpark Chasing Dreams.
2 years old, stood away here in great coat and condition, lovely proportions. Excellent head and beautiful almond shaped dark eyes. Very good bone, a little wide in front action but very good rear, profile and topline. CC.
2nd Page's Halesbern Star In The Skye. 2 1/2 years, won this place on her substance and finish of body over 3rd. Good proportions, lovely head and expression, not in her best coat and not as good in tail as the winner.
3rd Miles' Jaybiem Burli Shassi JW.

Open Bitch (8, 3)
1st Marsden & Robertson's Trudaleaze Majik Potion.
4 years, scored in her movement and firmness of topline. Excellent proportions, sufficient bone. Feminine head which needs a little more stop, lovely eye. Scored in front action and topline here. Won Reserve CC. Worthy of a title.
2nd Miles' Save Dallas Kiss For Jaybiem. 3 years, loved her for type and bone and ribbing and a very good head. Not quite as firm in her front action or topline but she is full of breed type. Another quality bitch.
3rd Baldwin's Fortonpark Lilly's Delight.

Veteran Bitch (2)
1st Flanagan's Collansues Rosebud.
7 years, a little low to ground accentuated by her carrying too much weight. Excellent free standing action. Very good head, scored in bone and movement here.
2nd Small's Malindi Beach Perfect Poseur. 8 years old, lighter type and needing more body on the day. Feminine head and good eye, not the front angulation or substance of the winner.
