Neck short and well-muscled, shoulders sloping with slightly short upper arm. BATH CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 27th May 2018  (No CCs on offer for Bernese)

My thanks to the exhibitors who braved the horrendous storm and flash flood at the showground just before judging. Amazingly all dogs were dry when they entered the ring, though some were not presented particularly cleanly.

Puppy Dog  (2 entries, 1 absentee)
1st Stephenson’s Bernark’s Mount Snowdon.
7 month lad growing well into a solid frame. Masculine head developing well, dentition and ear set good but a little concerned by one eye which appears to be developing at a different rate to the other. Plush coat. Good rear angulation and tail carriage. Beginning to rise over the loin but maintained a level topline on the move. Moved with reach and drive. Sadly the exhibitor felt it more important to be in the Puppy Stakes than stay ringside for the dog challenge, arriving back just in the nick of time to be awarded Best Puppy by default.

Junior Dog  (1, 1)

Post Graduate Dog  (3)
1st Connelly's Shirdees Top Gun.
Just 2 year old medium size male. Masculine head though still to develop fully. Alert expression, using his ears to his benefit. Good dentition. Straight front legs and good rear angulation. The best movement in the class and of the dogs but sadly developed some stiffness in the Best of Breed challenge. Best Dog.
2nd Stephenson's Kernow Something Perfect. 2 year old taller male, built narrower throughout and slightly straighter in rear angulation than 1st . Well marked. Plush coat. Presented in excellent condition. Outgoing personality; never stopped wagging his tail.
3rd Butcher’s Arvella Mr Penny Pincher At Jenzobern.

Limit Dog  (2)
1st Ellis’ Kernow Azir At Fitzford.
3 year old medium size male. Masculine head and expression with well set ears. Dark, almond shaped eye. Good angles. Well presented. Moved truly away and back. Tail carried a little high. Reserve Best Dog.
2nd Westlake’s Aprioro Uill Smith For Jesterbrock. 3 year old well boned male carrying a little excess weight. Good dentition. Good size, masculine head. Moved straight coming towards but close moving away. Could do with being moved faster.

Open Dog  No entries

Special Beginners Dog or Bitch  (3)
1st Clough’s Bernarks Now Or Never.
2 ½ year old bitch of good size. Very feminine head and expression. Good dentition. Excellent bone. Best shoulder placement and thus movement in the class. Good tail carriage. Presented in top condition. Best Special Beginner. Later placed Working Special Beginners Group 3 – well done.
2nd Connelly’s Shirdees Top Gun.
3rd Stephenson’s Kernow Something Perfect

Puppy Bitch  No entries

Junior Bitch  (3, 1)
1st Weston’s Bernfawr Jet Setter.
17 months, good sized bitch with lovely bone. Lovely dark eye in a feminine head. Lovely shape. A little unsure of herself when first in the ring but settled once she moved around the ring a couple of times and became more alert.
2nd Westlake’s Jesterbrock Lovestruck. 15 months, medium sized bitch again with a feminine head and expression. Good dentition, dark eyes and high ear set. More compact than 1st but moved closer behind.

Post Graduate Bitch  (4)
1st Miles’ Jaybiem My My My JW.
2 year old very strong bitch. A good size with impressive bone. Feminine yet broad head with dark eyes and high set ears. Good angles. Depth of chest to match her size. A compact bitch with good tail carriage. Moved confidently with reach and drive even when handled by a stranger in the challenge. Reserve Best Bitch.
2nd King & Bramble’s Shirdees Miss Congeniality JW.
2 year old bitch not in the best of coats today and unlucky to meet the 1st place. A favourite of mine but looked a little long today. Lovely feminine head with strength of bone, good reach of neck, lovely rear angulation and tail carriage.
3rd Clough’s Bernarks Now Or Never.

Limit Bitch (2,1)
1st Westlake’s Alpine Joy Page Story At Jesterbock.
Almost 5 year old bitch of medium size. Just coming back into coat. Medium bone. Good rear angulation. Moved with ease.

Open Bitch  (2, 1)
1st Miles’ Jaybiem Burli Shassi JW.
2 year old but fully matured bitch with such a sweet nature and expression. A substantial yet feminine girl with excellent bone. Has a lovely dark eye. Good slope of shoulder leading into straight front legs. Good rear angulation. Moved beautifully straight coming and going with delightful tail carriage. Pleased to award her Best Bitch and Best of Breed.

Veteran Dog or Bitch  (1)
1st Connelly’s Carabaz New Blues.
Just 7 years old, male of a good size. Masculine head, excellent dentition for his age, lovely dark eye. Good bone. Very profuse coat. Carrying a little weight and moved a little sluggishly but that’s allowed for our seniors. Maintained a good topline on the move however. Thoroughly enjoyed his day out, expressing his appreciation of the judging with a bear hug!  Best Veteran.
