Bernese News 31st March 2017

Today Bernese Welfare UK received a letter forwarding 5 cheques plus cash amounting to
£430 which were donations made in memory of Bernice Mair (Meadowpark) who passed away
in December. Previously an individual donation of £25 was received on 8th January plus £147.50
(3 cheques and cash) received from the funeral director on 17th January and a further donation
of £50 received directly on 6th February bringing the total to £652.50.

Thank you to the Mair family for nominating Bernese Welfare UK and everyone who contributed
to this memorial which will help needy Bernese. I'm sure Bernice would have been very pleased
and proud.

Karen Bird, secretary of the BMD Club of Great Britain emailed;
"The entry for our forthcoming Open Show at Grenoside is 55 dogs making 73 entries for the
main show and 14 entries in the Members Awards."

The judge this year is Mark Avery with Dawn Cochrane for the Special Members Awards.

For comparison the 2016 show had 55 exhibits giving 73 entries with 18 absentees for
all-rounder judge Del Richards plus 5 entered Not For Competition.
The Special Members Awards classes had 19 entries with 2 absentees judged by Chelsea

I would like to thank the committee of the Southern BMD Club for inviting me to judge.
I felt it as a great honour as a foreign judge and to have your trust in my judgments.

Although it was extremely cold, the welcome and hospitality was very warm.

A special thank to my professional steward, his guidance all the time to ensure I followed the
right direction.

As you might know, judging on the Continent is quite different to the  UK so I endeavoured to
judge in the manner your Kennel Club and your club members  expected.

My overall impression was , that the breed had improved in some ways over the last couple of
years.  All bites were OK, however there were some short tails.  I noticed size is still something
questionable to consider .

A real concern is the lack of forechest, and as a result inherent to this were the bad front
assemblies. This is a serious construction fault and consequently I have seen many with this
concern. Unfortunately of course this manifests itself in a bad movement.

Only a few dogs were shy, so overall impression of the temperament was that has improved
