"She has represented our breed so well. Was over the moon when she was Best Veteran in Show
at Plymouth Canine Society in February qualifying her for Top Dog of Devon 2018. She has kept
the Bernese flag flying high. So thrilled she is representing our breed so well and is fit, happy and
healthy."

The fourth and final quarter of the Kennel Club Breed Records Supplement for 2016 arrived
a few weeks ago and I had intended to publish some of the collated statistics for the year but
I put my file aside in a "safe place" all ready to upload - and then I promptly forgot about it!
Sorry.

The KC BRS provides a record of all the KC registration transactions for each breed so it
provides a unique insight into some of what is happening within a breed - but if is NOT a
complete nor accurate representation of breeding activity; not all dogs are KC registered
and these are ONLY records of paper transactions - dogs may change ownership on paper
but may not have actually change hands and some litters may be recorded as bred by one
person on paper but in fact be bred by, and reared on the premises of, another.

Between the period 1st January and 31st December 2016 the AT1 to AT4 issues recorded a
total of 116 litters of Bernese relating to 608 new registrations.

Those recorded litters were registered by 76 breeders, 60 of whom have a registered Kennel
Name (affix).

51 breeders registered 1 litter,
17 breeders registered 2 litters,
2 breeders registered 3 litters.
5 breeders registered 4 litters each during the year, each registering a total of 10, 17,
25, 29 and 34 puppies, and
1 breeder registered 5 litters totalling 34 puppies during the 12 month period.

Litter size range was;
15 litters recorded 1 pup,
7 litters recorded 2 pups,
16 litters recorded 3 pups,
10 litters recorded 4 pups,
13 litters recorded 5 pups,
15 litters recorded 6 pups,
14 litters recorded 7 pups,
11 litters recorded 8 pups,
8 litters recorded 9 pups,
1 litter recorded 10 pups,
4 litters recorded 11 pups,
2 litters recorded 12 pups.

21 of those litters were recorded as born by emergency Caesarean (CEM) and those
procedures produced 3 litters of 1 pup, 1 litter of 2, 6 litters of 3, 4 litters of 4, 4
litters of 6, 2 litters of 7 and 1 litter of 8.

There were also 7 litters born by elective Caesarean (CEL) and these produced 2 litters of
1 pup and 1 litter each of 2, 3, 4, 8 and 12.

111 different dams were recorded, 5 of whom produced two litters during the year at intervals
of;
3 pups + 9 pups born 7 1/2 months apart,
9 pups + 8 pups born 6 1/2 months apart. This dam had previously whelped her first litter whilst
14 months old so has a total of 3 litters amounting to 21 registered pups by the age of 3 years
and 2 months.
5 pups + 9 pups born 7 months apart,
5 pups + 6 pups born 7 months apart, and
1 pup + 3 pups born 6 months apart - each litter registered by two different owners.

Five dams whelped litters when aged well-under two years old - 14 months, 17 months, 2 were
19 months and another was 20 months old.

One other dam had whelped a litter in 2015 when aged 16 months and her second litter in 2016
when aged 2 years and one month.

The oldest dam was 7 years and 2 months old.

Three dams were recorded as having 4 litters credited to them, and 13 having had 3 litters.

14 dams were imports, 2 dams were Champions plus another was an Irish Champion.

reside overseas.

10 sired 2 litters,
6 sired 3 litters ,
