The Bernese entry for Working & Pastoral Breeds of Scotland Championship Show 2017 has
been announced as 43 exhibits giving 54 entries for breed specialist Anne Wells (Bernfold). 

For comparison the entry at the 2016 show was 52 entries with 10 absentees for all-rounder
judge Steve Hall.

The November 2017 issue of the Kennel Club  Journal is now available and it contains a few 
of items of particular interest to Bernese folk.

Thank you to Club secretary Shelagh Corrigan who kindly sent me a marked catalogue of the
Northern BMD Club 23 class Open Show held on 21st October at Thorpe Willoughby Village Hall.
There were 47 exhibits giving 61 entries with 28 absentees and 2 Not For Competition. The
judge was Bernese specialist Sheree Dickson (Bernavia), perhaps better known more recently
for her Finnish Lapphunds and Japanese Spitz.  

Best Dog and Best in Show was Gary Griffiths, Mandy Orme and June Miles' 17 month old
Jaybiem With N’Without Y’Zeus who was bred by June. 

Best Bitch and Reserve Best in Show went to Steve, Jeannette and Emily Green's homebred
3 1/2 year old Waldershelf All About Edna JW and they also took home the Best Puppy Dog and
Best Puppy in Show award with their 7 month old Matthias Vom Durrbachler Wald At Waldershelf
who is an import from the Netherlands. 

Best Veteran in Show and Reserve Best Bitch was won by 7 year old Jaybiem Vou Doo At 
Potterspride JW who was bred by June Miles and owned jointly by Gary Griffiths, Mandy Orme and
Violet Slade.  

Reserve Best Dog went to Marian's own Welshbern One Vision At Scobern and the Reserve Best
Puppy was Reg and Jackie Tomkins' Kinelarty Free As Bird For Bernershaw. Congratulations.

Well known and universally respected, long-standing UK Bernese pioneer Brenda Griffiths
(Forgeman) very sadly passed away at the end of July this year. The Griffiths family invited
donations in memory of Brenda to be directed to Bernese Welfare |UK.  i would like to announce
that donations from five individuals have been received plus donations of £100 from the BMD Club
of Great Britain and £50 from the Southern BMD Club which all combine to make a total of £390
which will help needy Bernese. 

Thank you to everyone who made a donation, I know Brenda would be pleased.

The World Dog Show will be held at Leipzig Trade Fair from 8th to 12th November 2017 and
has drawn a huge entry this year, enabling to organisers to state;
"With the record number of 24,692 total entries, the World Dog Show taking place from 9-12
November in Leipzig is not just the biggest dog show in the world, but the largest that has ever
been held in the history of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI)."

Some UK Bernese exhibitors and enthusiasts have announced they will be attending and
Bernese are classified in Group 2 and will be exhibited on the final day, Sunday 12th November
2017 in Hall 4 and judging takes place across 4 Rings. 

The website provided the Bernese entry figures starting with judge Josef Pohling (DEU) who has
55 exhibits entered under him and will judge the Male Veteran, Puppy and Junior classes. 
President of the BMD Club of Ireland, Michael Forte (IRL) has 105 exhibits to go over and will
judge the Male Intermediate, Champion and Open classes plus Best Breed.
Dr Andrzej Kazmierski (POL) has 78 exhibits entered in the Bitch Veteran, Puppy and Junior
classes, and Regula Burgi (CH) has 110 exhibits entered in the Bitch Intermediate, Champion
and Open classes.  A huge entry and many of us will eagerly await the results.

At Midland Counties Championship Show 2017
breed specialist judge Helen Davenport-Willis
had 94 entries with 22 absentees across 14 classes. 

Carole Hartley-Mair and Gary Dybdall's homebred Ch Meadowpark High Class won his 32nd
CC plus Best of Breed and Ch Meadowpark Just A Dream bred by Carole and Bernice took the
Bitch CC, her 10th 

The Reserve CCs went to Jackie Green's Canadian import Alpenspirit Pure Pleasure For Arvella
who was bred by Mylene Turbide and Sue Flanagan's homebred bitch Collansues Sugar N Spice. 

Best Puppy was awarded to Steve, Jeannette and Emily Green's Matthias Vom Durrbachler Wald
(Imp Ndl). 

Latee in the day Besf Breed winner Milo powered his way to win the Working Group under
all-rounder judge Derek Smith.

Elsewhere at the show Lee Reynolds' Beaucroft Moon Light Over Etterbern was placed reserve
in an entry of 26 with 14 absentees in the Bitch  Puppy Stakes judged by Barrie Croft and also
Lee's You're Good But I'm Better Berno Vega TAF  who is owned jointly with Leena Pawlyszyn
was placed Reserve in an entry of 58 with 30 absentees in the Junior Stakes Dog or Bitch which
was judged by all-rounder Peter Jolley. Congratulations.

developing nicely, good facial markings with a lovely rich tan, dark eyes, correct bite. Nice
straight front legs, compact feet.  Good bone throughout. Good front and rear angulation. Very
nice body with a nice rounded rump.  In very good coat for age.  Very happy puppy. Lovely
flowing movement holding his topline, well handled Best Puppy in Show, Best Puppy Dog.
2nd Scott's Szarhegyaljai Elyjah At Scobern.  7.5 months Tall puppy. Good head which needs
to broaden to catch up with his muzzle. Good facial markings, rich tan, dark eyes, would prefer
eye lids to be tighter, correct bite. Straight front legs, nice feet, good body, bone and coat. Moved
well holding his topline. Calm puppy

Puppy Dog  (2, 1)

Junior Dog  (3, 1)

 Best in Show. 17 months quality
young dog. Excellent breed type. Super head, text book markings with rich dark tan, dark eyes,
correct bite. Good straight front legs with compact feet. Lovely bone. Excellent shoulder placement,
level topline, well ribbed up, lovely body proportions, well rounded rump giving good rear angulation.
Good tail carriage. Excellent temperament.  A little out of coat, but well presented. Lovely mover
coming and going, well handled. Pleased to award him Best Dog and Best In Show.
2nd Horn's Husheen Let Me Love You
.  14 months, lighter bone than 1st and going through the
rangy stage. Head will hopefully broaden as he matures, good markings and rich tan. dark eyes,
correct bite.  Straight front legs, tight feet. Good coat and temperament, fair mover.

Yearling Dog  (1)
1st Griffiths, Orme & Miles' Jaybiem With N’Without Y’Zeus

Graduate Dog  (1)
1st Perks' Kernow Festival Buzz
.  2 years,  has a very nice well marked head but would prefer
a shorter muzzle, correct bite. Would prefer a slightly longer neck nice body,held topline on the move.
Good coat and temperament, fair mover

Post Graduate Dog  (3, 1)
1st Grimes' Stormberne Let It Snow.
 4 years. Big dog all round, very broad head, excellent
facial markings and rich tan, correct bite, big bone to match his size Liked his body proportions.
Level topline, in very good coat all be it a little wavy. Well angulated in rear. Would insist on pacing
but what movement I did see was OK.  Won class on breed type. Good temperament

Limit Dog  (4, 3)
1st Granger's Orlando Bloom At Jaybiem JW ShCM.
 3.5 years Good breed type, lovely head
with classic markings, nice rich tan, dark eyes, correct bite.  Straight front legs, nice feet. Shoulder
placement could be better, level topline held on the move. Nice body, well rounded rump, good
hind angulation, good bone, coat and temperament. Movement good.

Open Dog  (2, 1)
1st Scott's Welshbern One Vision At Scobern ShCM.
 5 years. Lots to like, nice breed type.
Very good head and text book  markings, good rich tan, dark eyes, correct bite. Straight front,
compact feet, nice shoulder placement, very nice body proportions. Level topline held on the move.
Nicely rounded rump giving good hind angulation, in good coat. Good bone. Moved well, happy
temperament. Reserve Best Dog. 

Veteran Bitch  (4, 2)
1st Griffiths, Slade & Orme's Jaybiem Vou Doo At Potterspride JW.
 7 years. Smaller framed
bitch with excellent bone to match. Excellent head and markings, rich tan, dark eyes, correct bite.
Excellent front, feet, and body proportions, very good rear angulation. Excellent gleaming coat, very
good mover. Happy temperament..Reserve Best Bitch and Best Veteran in Show.
2nd Marsden & Robertson's Trudaleaze Im A Maze Zing.
 8 years, well marked head, would
prefer darker tan and eyes, correct bite. Deeper in body than 1st, well angulated rear. Moved a little
wide n front. Good temperament

Minor Puppy Bitch  (3)
1st Tomkins' Kinelarty Free As A Bird For Bernershaw.
 6 months. Well marked puppy with
lovely rich tan. Smaller frame, compact body with huge bone, very feminine. head still developing,
correct bite, dark eyes. Straight front legs, very nice feet. Very good body proportions, slightly bum
high at present, good front and rear angulation, needs to strengthen in rear pasterns. In very good
coat. Moved close behind. Happy puppy. Reserve Best Puppy in Show, Best Puppy Bitch.
2nd Green's Madell Vom Durrbachler Wald At Waldershelf (Imp Ned).  7 months, litter sister to
BPIS. Taller and finer in bone to 1st. Good head and markings, rich tan, correct bite. Straight front,
nice feet, good body shape, in good coat, kept topline on the move. Good temperament
3rd Corrigan's Szarhegyaljai Elekktra.

Puppy Bitch  (1)
1st Spencer's Padiky Starr Studded Skye
.  11.5 months, Big girl and at present going through the
rangy stage, very lean. Enough bone for her frame. Nice head and markings, rich tan, correct bite.
Good front. At present coat is wavy - will straighten as she matures. Held topline on the move,
moved close behind. Good temperament.

Junior Bitch  (4,2)
1st Miles' Jaybiem My My My
.  17 months litter sister to BIS.  Very nice breed type. Pleasing head
with good markings, would prefer a richer tan, dark eyes, correct bite. Very good front and feet, good
bone. Good body proportions, held topline on the move. Lovely gleaming coat. One of the few to have
correct tail carriage. Good mover, and temperament.
2nd Silcock's Arvella A Pretty Penny.  14 months, tends to stand roached and a bit wide in front
wide in front. Nice head with minimal face markings, lovely rich tan, correct
bite. Would prefer a longer neck. In good coat. Fair mover. Good temperament.

Yearling Bitch  (2)
1st Tomkins' Kinelarty Ellen Ray Of Light For Bernershaw
. 18 months, nice shaped bitch out
of coat. Nice head, markings and rich tan, dark eyes, correct bite.  Straight front legs, good bone
and body, held topline on the move. Well rounded rump. Would prefer a slightly longer tail. Very
good mover. Good temperament.
2nd Grimes' Fortonpark Future Dreams TAF.  22 months, nice head, markings, deep rich tan,
eyes a bit round, correct bite. Straight front, good feet, good body proportions. Chest markings -
black encroaching into the white cross area, in very good coat, fair mover. Good temperament.

out of coat. Good head, markings and rich tan, dark eyes, correct bite. Nice straight front legs, nice 
feet. Excellent shoulder placement and rear anglulation. Good body proportions, well rounded rump.
Very good mover holding topline. Good temperament.

2nd Granger's Shirdees Harlow Jean Of Shadybower JW.  2.5 years, nice breed type, excellent
head and markings, rich tan, dark eyes, correct bite. Good shoulder placement and body proportions.

3 years. Big bitch with bone to match her size.
Good  breed type. Excellent head, markings, lovely rich tan, dark eyes, correct bite. Lovely straight
front, cat feet. Excellent body proportions, front and rear angulation, level topline, well rounded rump.
Coat slightly wavy. Holding her topline on the move.  Won Best Bitch on her movement. Well handled.
Good temperament. Best Bitch, Reserve Best in Show.
