DRIFFIELD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 1st October 2015

(No CCs offered for Bernese Mountain Dogs at this show)

I would like to thank the committee of Driffield Agricultural Society for inviting me to judge 
Bernese Mountain Dogs, my two ring stewards who kept the ring running smoothly and 
last but not least all the exhibitors for entering under me.

Puppy Dog  (3 entries,1 absentee)
1st Wakeland's Shirdees Joe DiMaggio At Bramikdel.
Very happy 9 month old puppy,  
just loved his temperament. Head developing well with flat skull and strong muzzle, dark
almond shaped eye and correct scissor bite. Compact body with good firm topline, well-laid 
shoulders, moved and handled well.
2nd Brown's Esslinbern Benrus Sky Chief. This young man needs to gain some 
confidence. Good flat skull, dark almond shaped eye.  Medium neck, topline needs to
strengthen. Good bone and rear angulation, moved well.

Junior Dog  (2, 1)
1st Mair & Hartley-Mair's Meadowpark High Class.
Well developed for his 8 1/2 months.
Lovely masculine head with flat skull, strong muzzle , correct dentition. Dark almond shaped
eyes giving him a heart melting expression. Medium neck leading to well laid shoulders, firm  
topline held on the move, well let down hocks.  Well balanced with compact body giving an 
overall balanced appearance. Moved and handled well.  Very pleased to award him Best  
Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Breed.

Post Graduate Dog  (6, 4)
1st Green's Alpenspirit Pure Pleasure For Arvella (Imp). 
Strong masculine head, flat skull, 
strong muzzle with correct dentition, dark almond eye.  Medium neck, well laid shoulders, good 
depth of brisket. Firm topline, correct tail set, good rear angulation with well let down hocks. 
Compact, balanced, moved with reach and drive. Pity this boy went lame in the challange.
2nd Martin & Miles' Kernow Claptons Greatest For Jaybiem.  Masculine head, dark almond
shaped eye, good neck leading to firm topline.  Well rounded rump, adequate rear angulation 
with enough bone and substance for size, moved well in profile.

Open Dog  (8, 2)
1st Mair, Hartley-Mair & Dybdall's Ch Meadowpark Vertigo JW.
Loved everything about this 
boy. Strong masculine head, lovely dark eyes with kind expression.  Medium neck leading to 
well laid shoulders, good depth of brisket, balanced and compact body.  Well muscled and 
broad hindquarters, good rear angulation with well let down strong hocks. Strong level topline.
Moved with good reach and drive. Very pleased to award him Best of Breed, went on to gain 
Working Group 3. 
2nd Granger's Jaybiem I Tri For Shadybower JW.
Not as big as 1st but well in proportion.
Masculine head, dark eyes, strong muzzle, Medium neck, strong firm topline, balanced and 
compact body. Not as well angulated as 1st, good bone and substance for size. Moved and
handled well. Pleased to award him Reserve Best Dog.
3rd Griffiths, Orme & Miles'  Jaybiem Y’euben Chozen JW

Puppy Bitch  (2, 1)
1st Granger's Shirdees Harlow Jean Of Shadybower.
Stood alone in this class but still a 
worthy winner. At 9 months of age she is going to mature into a good sized bitch.  Feminine 
head and expression, correct ear set with dark eyes, correct dentition.  Good length of neck, 
well laid shoulders, top line needs to strengthen.  Good bone and substance,moved well once 
she settled. Pleased to award her Best Puppy Bitch. 

Junior Bitch  (3, 2)
1st Spencer's Waldershelf Ethels Way At Padiky.
Strong head, flat skull, muzzle a little
on the heavy side and would have liked more stop. Correct dentition, lovely dark eye.  At just 
over seventeen months she has a lot of maturing to do. Coat in lovely condition. Moved well 
in profile. Pleased to award her Reserve Best Bitch.  

Post Graduate Bitch  (2, 1)
1st Abbott's Meadowpark Dream Come True With Kingstonska.
Very feminine bitch, nice
dark eye, good medium length neck, firm top line. Enough bone and substance for size. Good 
tight feet, moved well in profile, a little wide in front.

Open Bitch  (3, 2)
1st Abbott's Meadowpark One Love With Kingstonska.
 A well balanced bitch, feminine head
with flat skull and dark almond eye. Strong medium neck leading to well laid shoulders, firm
topline held on the move. Good angulation with well let down hocks, moved well in profile with 
reach and drive. Pleased to award her Best Bitch.
