Bernese News 28th October 2016

Many thanks to club secretary Shelagh Corrigan for sending me a marked catalogue of the
Northern BMD Club Open Show which was held last weekend at Thorpe Willoughby.  There 
were 62 entries with 15 absentees across 23 classes for breed specialist judge Lianne Marsden

Best Dog and Best in Show was awarded to June Miles and Rich Sampson's Jaybiem Mi Lord
who is a 4 1/2 year old sired by Duntiblae Brave protector Of Atherton x Ch Jaybiem I Kea and
bred by June. 

Best Bitch and Reserve Best ion Show went to Joanne and Trevor Sutton's homebred 3 3/4 year
old Ch Bernsteph Dior Remember Me JW ShCM.  She is a daughter of Tickbern Over The Moon x
Sennenson Nina Ricci At Bernsteph.  

Jesterbrock Alpine Joy At Enchambray won Best Puppy in Show.  8 months old and bred by Wendy Westlake, she is sired by Glanzberg Day Ryder For Jesterbrock x Alpine Joy Page Story At
Jesterbrock and owned by Chris Handley. 

Mark and Julie Wakeland's Ch Collansues Buildin Bridges At Bramikdel was Best Veteran. Bred by
Sue Flanagan he is by Ch Jaybiem Utwo JW ShCM x Collansues Field Of Dreams. Congratulations.

The next Northern Club event is the Superleague which takes place on 19th November 2016
at The Ribston Room, Bridge Hotel, Walshford Bridge, near Wetherby, West Yorks LS22 5HS.
Marian tells me that all invitations have been sent out and those who have received them are
requested to reply to confirm whether they will be attending or not.

At Midland Counties Championship Show 2016 held yesterday breed specialist Chris
Wilson (Blumental) drew 71 entries with 18 absentees across 14 classes.

It was a 13th CC for Ch Meadowpark High Class owned by Bernice Mair, Carole Hartley-Mair
and Gary Dybdall.  Homebred, he is 21 months old and sired by Ch Meadowpark Vertigo JW
x Meadowpark Northern Blend.  Elsewhere at the show his sire, Ch Vertigo, won the Working
and Terrier Champion Stakes (26 entries present) under  judge Tom Mather.  

The Reserve Dog CC went to Wendy Law's  Ecalpharas Gold who is almost 2 years old, bred
by Sarah Place and sired by Monalou Rodney x Monalou Mercedes Benz.

In Bitches it was Michele Gurney's homebred Ch Monalou Fanny Craddock who won her 9th
CC  and also Best of Breed. 5 years old she is by Ch bernerdalens Uno Amigo Bueno x Ch
Monalou Perfect Recipe.  Michele also bred the Reserve Bitch CC winner, Esther Ann 
McCormick's  5 1/2 year old Monalou Artic Queen who has the same sire as the Bitch CC winner
x Ch Monalou Little Miss Swiss who is litter sister to Perfect Recipe, the Bitch CC winner's dam.

Best Puppy was awarded to June Miles' Jaybiem Burli Shassi who is 9 months old, homebred
and sired by Ch Jaybiem Yeuben Chozen JW ShCM x Meadowpark Sweetest Thing At Jaybiem.

At the show Jackie Green organised a limited-to-50-ticket draw for two Bernese prints and the 
lucky winners were Leena Pawlyszyn with ticket number 40 and Olga Vaychkus with ticket number
34.  Many thanks to Jackie and all those who supported the fundraiser which has raised £125 for 
Bernese Welfare UK.


The November 2016 issue of the Kennel Club Journal
has been published and contains a
few items of specific interest to Bernese owners.

I know that some of you are also interested in the other three breeds closely associated with

Change of breed name

At it's recent meeting the general committee agreed that the breed nomenclature for the
Greater Swiss Mountain Dog will change to Great Swiss Mountain Dog. This is to take effect
from 1st January 2017.
