Bernese News 11th October 2018

At South Wales Championship show on Friday breed specialist judge Lynn Barker (Graburlynn) found 68 entries with 18 absentees across 15 classes.

For comparison there were 59 entries with 19 absentees for all-rounder judge Margaret Wildman at the 2017 show.

The Dog CC and Best of Breed went to the well-known 3 1/2 year old Ch Meadowpark High Class owned and bred by Carole Hartley-Mair and Gary Dybdall. This was the 47th CC for 'Milo' who is a son of Ch Meadowpark Vertigo JW x Meadowpark Northern Blend.

Taking the Reserve Dog CC was Michele Gurney's homebred Monalou Russian Ambassador who is a few days off his 5th birthday and sired by Multi Ch Sennenhund Rossii Senator x Monalou Mrs Beaton.

The Bitch CC, her 2nd was awarded to June MIles' homebred Jaybiem Burli Shassi JW, a 2 1/2 year old sired by Jaybiem Y'euben Chozen x Ch Meadowpark Sweetest Thing At Jaybiem (who is litter sister to the sire of the Best of Breed winner).

The Reserve Bitch CC was won by Trevor and Joanne Sutton's homebred 5 1/2 year old Ch Bernsteph Dior Remember Me JW ShCM who is a daughter of Tickbern Over The Moon x Sennensonn Nina Ricci At Bernsteph.

Sue Flanagan's homebred 11 month old Collansues Magical Spell was Best Puppy and he is a son of Shirdees Leathal Weapon (who is a son of the BOB winner) x Collansues Magical Dream. Congratulations.

Those travelling on the London Underground have been viewing posters advertising Discover Dogs which takes place at the ExCel, London on 20th & 21st October and one of the posters features a large 'smiling' headshot of a well-marked Bernese with the tag-line "Big boy looking for love".

Several Bernese folk contacted me as they had believed the poster was in fact an appeal attempting to find the dog a new home and that he needed "rescuing" but their worries were unfounded as of course that was not the case as I believe the dog is owned by Ashley Mitchell. Just another example of our eye-catching breed had been chosen to attract attention as part of an advertising campaign.

Marian Scott emailed;
"The entry for our [Northern BMD Club] Open Show on Saturday 20th October is 45 making 51 plus 2 Not For Competition."

For comparison the entry at the 2017 show was giving 61 entries with 28 absentees and 2 Not For Competition for breed specialist judge Sheree Dickson (Bernavia),

For those who may not know the above mentioned show will be held on 20th October 2018 at Thorpe Willoughby Village Hall, Leeds Road, Thorpe Willoughby, North Yorkshire. YO8 9PA. The judge is breed specialist Emily Green (Waldershelf) and judging commences at 10.30am.

The Northern BMD Club has also organised a walk.

My thanks to Southern BMD Club secretary Trish Goodyear for sending me a marked catalogue of the Club Open Show held on Sunday at the usual venue, Mole Barn at Leatherhead Leisure Centre. Much appreciated Trish!

The judge was all-rounder judge Jenny Miller (Feorlig). There were 56 entries with 17 absentees across 25 classes plus 2 dogs entered Not For Competition.

For comparison the 2017 show attracted entry 66 entries with 16
absentees and 10 dogs entered Not For Competition for all-rounder judge Darren Clarke (Peluche).

Best Bitch and Best in Show went to Trevor and Joanne Sutton's homebred Ch Bernsteph Dior Remember Me JW ShCM with Sandy Rothery's homebred Ch Glamrock Graffiti Artist ShCM taking Best Dog and Reserve Best in Show.

Best Puppy in Show was won by Sue Flanagan's homebred Collansues Magical Spell and Sue also won Best Veteran with her Collansues Rosebud. Congratulations.
