Bernese News 17th September 2015

Tom and Wendy Murray emailed;

"END OF SEASON CARTING AWARDS 2015 (For best overall Top Working Cart Dog)

"The Bernese Working Cart Group of GB hold 5 competitions throughout the year at various
Bernese Breed Clubs which are:

BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN - GB Spring Garden
Party & Autumn Garden Party

CENTRAL BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG CLUB - Open Show & Working Day in May

SOUTHERN BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG CLUB - Fun weekend in July

BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG CLUB OF SCOTLAND - Scottish Champshow/Fun Day weekend
in August

"To explain briefly, we hold three levels on the carting course which are:

* BEGINNERS

* INTERMEDIATE

* ADVANCED

"You need three passes at each level before you can progress on to the next level.  Once you
have attained three passes in advanced you can then compete for the Overall Top Working
Cart Dog of the year.

"Once you have reached three passes in advanced you are then competing in the points for the
overall Top Working Cart Dog which  means that your three best scores throughout the year
are added together. The dog with the highest score for the year is awarded at our end of season
awards ceremony. So you will be awarded for Gold, Silver or Bronze medals and trophies.

"It is quite an achievement to attain top honours and there has been some great carting/working
dogs throughout the years, maybe you and your Bernese could be next?

"A Big Thank You to Steve Sheringham for Sponsoring the medals this year, it's very much
appreciated by all the carters

"Steve and his wife Jan come along to our training weekends and have supported what we do
for a few years now. They have Swissies, Rottweilers and have recently acquired a long-awaited
Bernese puppy. It is through Jan we got involved in a training day with the Rottweiler Club.

PRESTON & DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY OPEN SHOW  9th August 2015

Junior  (3 entries, 1 absentee)
1st Baldwin’s Fortonpark Designer Record.
Quality 9 month old puppy bitch with beautiful
shape and outline. Good bone, straight front legs and nice tight feet'  Well marked with rich tan
Feminine head and expression with nice dark almond-shaped eyes.  Good neck, shoulder and
angulation of upper-arm. Deep chest, well-ribbed and compact in the loin. Well-rounded rump
and correct tail-set. Moved true coming and going but needs to relax on the move to fully
extend and move the way she is made to; could have taken Best of Breed if she had done this.
One to watch. Best Puppy in Breed.
2nd Spencer’s Waldershelf Ethel’s Way At Padiky. 15 month old bitch with a gorgeous
outline, coming on nicely. Good neck and shoulder leading into strong topline and well-rounded
rump. A little straight in her upper arm, but enough depth of chest and well-ribbed.  Enough
bone for size and tight cat-like feet. Head is a little basic but will hopefully develop.  Liked this
bitch’s free movement with extension in profile but just needs to strengthen in the rear moving
away. Still holds her own and will be interested to see how she matures.

Post Graduate  (2)
1st Hughes’ Waldershelf Causing Kaos.
Well balanced 15 month old male with bags of
potential. Not overdone in anyway. Well-marked with rich tan, Attractive head and expression
with strong muzzle and broad skull. Nice dark eye and correct ear set.  Good neck and shoulder.
Enough bone for size. Strong topline and compact in the loin. Moderate rear-angles, but needs
to drop into his frame and stifle angulation should improve once this happens. Could be a
touch cleaner in front but strong sturdy hocks moving away and loved his scope and extension
in profile. Well-handled and could work all day. Very honest dog. Pleased to award him Best of
Breed.
2nd Forrester’s Emberfay Sargent Pepper. Strong, masculine 3 ½ year old male with good
bone and substance. Strong muzzle, broad skull and attractive expression.  Clean markings.
Would prefer better shoulder placement but strong topline and compact in the loin.  Enough hind
angulation but weak hocks which knuckled over.  Not as sound as the winner coming or going but
easy movement in profile for a big dog. Happy temperament and thick dense coat.

Open  (2, 1)
1st Baldwin’s Fortonpark Dutch Design.
Shapely 3 ½ year old bitch with a balanced outline.
Feminine head and expression. Kind dark eye and alert ear set.  Good neck and shoulder leading
into strong topline. Nice and compact in the loin with well-rounded rump.  Well angulated rear and
short strong hocks. Just lacks the length of leg to give her the desired scope on the move which I
was looking for today. Moved true going away and in profile and presented perfectly.
