Rioja ~ Vellbern The Raindancer
17th February 2013 ~ 29th August 2017
Aileen Trevett emailed;
"Ron, Vino and myself are devastated to announce the loss of our Darling girl Rioja. No sign
of illness until she refused food and a walk Monday morning. A trip to the vet a bloods revealed
low white blood cell count and slight anemia, Pancreatitis was suspected but events worsened
and by the late afternoon she was very unwell. She was obviously bleeding internally and it was
found her liver had been destroyed by tumors. Nothing could be done to save her.
"Rioja was lightly shown as a youngster and won well gaining a RCC behind her mother at
Bournemouth 2015 before I retired from the rings. She was everything I could have wished for
with her happy clown like temperament, she fitted every word of the standard in her outlook on
life. Never cross always smiling, happy to meet everyone and every dog she saw. Just 4 weeks
ago she showed the world that a Bernese could turn their paws to anything joining in with a silly
lurcher race to catch a speeding "bunny" and making the crowd laugh at her antics.  Her bestie
mate was a very tiny 9 inch tall cavachon "Woodie" and she walked with him every day, the
foolishness they got up to and the gentle way she played with him made us smile and laugh. Her
passion for squirrel chasing was legendary, though not a very good trait !!  Her coat was a
blooming nightmare requiring daily grooming as once she was spayed it grew and grew!! but she
was a beautiful girl, her picture says it all.

"Rest well my baby dog, little dog, Riocker babe, we will miss you every day. I hope you are with
your Granny Merlot and Grt Granny Pepsi, one day we will all be re-united at the bridge. The tears
we have cried for you will make a river in our hearts.

"Histiocytic Sarcoma seems to be the cause, in time test results will mostl ikely confirm this diagnosis.
I urge everyone be you pet owner show lover orbreeder to join the research being carried out with
the help of Antegene and the National Centre for Scientific Research in Rennes. It should be
beholden to every Bernese lover to do whatever we can to try and eradicate this dreadful disease.
Please help so less people have to go through the same pain as we, and many others already have,
to suffer the pain of having your heart torn apart like this is something I wish on no one.
Aileen and Ron Trevett."
