Bernese in the News.

This news story was originally published online on 30th August 2017;

"Cross-breeds are by far the most popular canines ahead of Chihuahuas and Labradors in
Switzerland, according to an official dog register.

"Of the 543,596 dogs registered in the Amicus dog database, about 149,00o were mongrels,
while the 25,000 Chihuahuas outnumbered the Labradors at the end of June this year.

"Yorkshire Terriers and Jack Russells were also in the top five, while the Swiss-bred Bernese
Mountain Dog species dropped out of the top ten ranking and came 11th place compared with
2016 statistics.

"There were also about 7,000 potentially dangerous dogs, including 2,100 American Staffordshire
Terriers, 2,000 Rottweilers as well as Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Pit Bull Terriers and Bull Terriers
according to the Amicus register.

"Following a deadly attack on a child in 2005, several of the country’s 26 cantons introduced a
licence system for dog owners or even banned certain potentially dangerous breeds.

"500 dog breeds

"Altogether 500 different dog breeds are listed in the database, which is run on behalf of the
cantonal authorities. All dogs must be registered and have a micro-chip in Switzerland under
regulations introduced more than a decade ago in a bid to prevent illegal imports of canine.

"The most popular dog names in Switzerland are Luna, ahead of Rocky, Kira, Lucky, Bella,
Snoopy and Max.

"The latest figures on the human population in Switzerland also came out on Wednesday.
At the end of 2016, there were 8,419,600 people living in the country, an increase of 92,400
people – or 1.1% – over the past 12 months, according to data published by the Federal
Statistics Office. with agencies/ug"

I would like to thank the exhibitors for the wonderful quality entry they bestowed on me. Some
disappointing exhibits in some of the lower dog classes but I found the bitches to be of a very
high quality and the Open bitch was just a delight.

Veteran Dog  No entries
Minor Puppy Dog  (1 entry)
1st Thompson & Garland-Thompson's Waldershelf Remylebeau.
6 month old. This dog was
being constantly fed with titbits and so was very difficult to assess. I suggest train the dog without
over titbitting! From what I could see he had a good head and expression. A touch upright in
front but again I think due to the eating end. Correct topline.  Needs plenty more training to stand
still and move correctly.
Puppy Dog  (2)
1st Wakeland's Collansues Secret Potion At Bramikdel
. 9 months, of a good size and shape.
Pleasing head with well shaped eye and ear. Good front and feet. Good depth of brisket for age.
Would like better on the move but good on the stand.
2nd New's Meadowpark Just Dreamy. 11 months with good jacket but poor on the move both
front and rear. Good head and neck and correct front. Like tighter feet even for a puppy. Good rib
cage and depth of brisket. Would have liked stronger in hind quarters.
Junior Dog  (8 entries, 3 absentees)
1st and Reserve Dog CC Griffiths, Orme & Miles' Jaybiem With N'without Y'zeus.
15 months
and a lovely quality, masculine dog. Good size and shape with pleasing head and neck. Correct
front and feet and a good depth of brisket for his age.  Excellent topline carried well on the move.
Best of jackets. Moved around the large ring with ease. A bright future for this dog I feel.
2nd Bridges' Kernow Troubadour. A good dog but on the day a touch out of coat. Pleasing head,
neck, front and feet. Good depth of brisket for his age. Strong in hind quarters. Just like slightly
better in rear movement on the day.
3rd Jefferson's Shirdees Fast And Furious.
Graduate Dog  (2)
1st Griffiths, Orme & Miles' Jaybiem With N'without Y'zeus.

Post Graduate Dog  (4, 1)
1st Fairclough's Monalou Spirit Of Discovery.
I liked this dog bar his appalling front movement.
Good head, neck, front and topline. Good depth of brisket and correct hind quarters. Excellent
2nd Bridges' Deerpark Traveling Man V Kernow. Pleasing head but would have preferred
slightly longer in neck. Good fore quarters. Would like better in topline. Like better in movement
both front and rear for me.
3rd Grimes' Stormberne Let It Snow.
Limit Dog  (6, 1)
1st Davenport-Willis' Apriori Usain Bolt Among Nellsbern (Imp Rus) .
I liked this dog a great
deal n many ways. However his owner knows his major fault and not for me to print.  2 year old
with excellent head, neck, shoulder, bone and feet. Good depth of brisket and best of toplines.
Excellent on the move.
2nd Rothery's Glamrock Graffiti Artist ShCM. Larger dog but all in proportion. Correct head, neck,
front and feet. Lovely topline and depth of brisket with good rib cage.  Strong in hind quarters and
pleasing on the move.
3rd Wakeland's Shirdees Joe Dimaggio At Bramikdel JW.
Open Dog  (7, 1)
1st, Dog CC, Best of Breed and Group 2. Hartley-Mair & Dybdall's Ch Meadowpark High

Class. Magnificent quality dog that I have only seen from ring side but was not disappointed with
running my hands over him. Good head, neck, front and feet. Good solid body with correct front
and feet. Good depth of brisket and strong hind quarters. Moving and covering the ground well on
the move. Being highly critical I find him a touch too solid in body. I am not surprised he has done
so much group winning in the past and again at this show.
2nd Green's Alpenspirit Pure Pleasure For Arvella (Imp Can). Another lovely dog but was beaten
by an all inspiring quality male. Slightly larger than the winner. Good head, front and feet. Correct
bone and feet. Correct topline and depth of brisket. Pleasing on the move.
3rd Bird & Bridges' Kernow Something ShCM.

Good Citizen Dog  (1, 1)

Veteran Bitch  No entries
Minor Puppy Bitch  (5, 1)
1st and Best Puppy Weston's Bernfawr Jonquill.
8 months old and a great puppy in the making.
Still slightly shy of the show ring situation. Pleasing feminine head with good neck and shoulders.
Correct front and feet. Good topline and depth of brisket and good rib cage. At this stage would
just like slightly stronger in hind quarters and needs to settle on the move.
2nd Watson's Stepdashar Winters Wish. Just 6 months old on the day and a lovely youngster.
Pleasing head, front, feet, topline and hind quarters Good on the move front and rear.
3rd Weston's Bernfawr Jet Setter.
Puppy Bitch  (5, 2)
1st Weston's Bernfawr  Jonquill.

2nd Spencer Padiky Starr Studded Skye. Good bitch on the stand. Many good points of this
puppy. Head, neck, topline, front and feet. Moving well behind but would just like to see better in
front movement.
3rd Weston's Berfawr Jet Setter.
Junior Bitch  (6, 3)
1st Miles' Jaybiem My My My.
I just loved this 15 month old bitch. In my opinion she still has some
way to go but developing well. The correct size and shape for a bitch and full of quality points.
Pleasing in head, front and bone.  Good depth and topline.  Excellent in hind quarters and perfect
on the move.
2nd Bird & Head's Cullumbern Roman Toga With Millermead. Another lovely bitch and so
unlucky to meet the winner. Another day they could swap places and most likely will most of their
showing career. Pleasing head, neck, front and feet. Good topline and hind quarters. Pleasing on the
3rd Flippance's Tickbern Upto Jenna At Nenebern.
Graduate Bitch  (3, 2).
1st Bird & Head's Cullumbern Roman Toga with Millermead.
Post Graduate Bitch  (6, 1)
1st Bridges' Kernow All My Loving.
Great 2 year old, feminine head and expression.  Correct
front and feet with the right amount of bone. Good tail and depth of brisket. Excellent jacket,
moving best of the class.
2nd Grimes' Fortonpark Future Dreams. Yet another lovely feminine head and expression. Not
so good in front as winner. Good topline and hind quarters. Would like better on the move in front.
3rd Green's Alpenspirit Que Sera Sera (Imp Can).
Limit Bitch  (8, 1)
1st Bridges' Kernow Hello Old Friend.
3 year old of the correct size and shape. Pleasing head,
neck, front and bone. Correct topline and hind quarters. Excellent on the move.
2nd Tomkins' Meadowpark Hopes And Dreams For Bernershaw. Similar in size and shape as
winner but much heavier. Pleasing head and front. Good topline and correct hind quarters.
Pleasing on the move.
3rd Watson's Stepdashar Sommer Girl.
Open Bitch  (9, 3)
1st and Bitch CC Stannard's Meadowpark Beach Blend At Tangyachates.
This 5 year old
headed one of the best Open classes I have seen in many a long year. it is rare for me to say this
but all 5 places could have changed places on different day. Quality bitches through and through.
This bitch filled my eye from the moment she entered the ring. Best of heads, front and feet.
Perfect shaped body with good depth of brisket and good ribbing. Excellent topline and in full coat.
Excellent on the move. I was delighted that this ticket gave her her title.
2nd Atherton's Ch Athersbern Peronelle Blush. A very worthy champion and tried her hardest
for top spot. Slightly smaller in body than winner but all in proportion. Pleasing head, front, topline
and excellent on the move.
3rd Miles' Save Dallas Kiss For Jaybiem.
Good Citizen Bitch  (1)
1st Marsden & Robertson's Trudaleaze Majik Potion.
3 year old and solid in body. A touch shy
when being gone over. Good head, front, bone and feet.. Pleasing on the move.
