Bernese News EXTRA 28th September 2018

The Bernese entry for South Wales Championship Show 2018 to be held on 5th October has been announced as 60 exhibits giving 74 entries for breed specialist judge Lynn Barker (Graburlynn)

For comparison the entry at the 2017 show was 59 entries with 19 absentees for all-rounder judge Margaret Wildman.

Darlington Championship Show held on 15th September 2018 had the 22nd set of CCs on offer this year for Bernese and all-rounder judge Rodney Oldham drew an entry of 34 with 9 absentees across 14 classes. This was the lowest turnout at a Championship show this year although I've seen comments online from folk in other breeds who have also reported extremely low turnouts for their breeds too at this show.

For comparison Darlington 2017 had 40 entries with 9 absentees for all-rounder judge Barrie Croft.

Winning his second CC but the first won whilst being handled by his owner was Waldershelf Causing Kaos ShCM, owned by a thrilled Donna Louise Hughes. Bred by Steve, Jeannette and Emily Green this dog is 4 years old and sired by Multi Ch Bernerdalens Jackpot x Meadowpark Thats Royal At Waldershelf.

The Reserve Dog CC was awarded to Gary Griffiths, Mandy Orme and June Miles' Jaybiem With N'without Y'zeus JW who is a 2 year old bred by June and is a son of Ch Meadowpark Vertigo JW x Save Dallas Kiss For Jaybiem. June also won the Reserve Bitch CC with her homebred Jaybiem Burli Shassi JW. A daughter of Jaybiem Yeuben Chozen JW ShCM x Ch Meadowpark teh Sweetest Thing, she is 2 1/2 years old.

Closely following up her 12th ticket at Richmond it was a 13th CC plus Best of Breed for Mike and Di Atherton's homebred Ch Athersbern Peronelle Blus, a 6 year old sired by Ch Monalou Dutch Courage JW x Athersbern Affinity.

Best Puppy went to the Cohen's Fortonpark Top Design For Hutzpah who was bred by Julie Baldwin. 11 months old this pup is by Meadowpark First Class For Fortonpark JW x Fortonpark Designer Record.

Best Veteran was won by Esther Ann McCormicks 7 1/2 year old Monalou Artic Queen who is by Ch Bernardalens Uno Amigo Bueno x Ch Monalou Little Miss Swiss and was bred by Michele Gurney. Congratulations.

Breed specialist judge Val Brown (Holyanne) was the judge at Driffield Championship Show held on 20th September 2018. There were 12 classes scheduled for Bernese but without CCs on offer. The entry fee for breeds with no CCs was £15 first entry, (£27 for breeds with CCs) plus £5 subsequent entries.

It must have been disappointing for those who did turn up to find that that 6 of those 12 Bernese classes attracted no entries at all, 3 classes with 1 entry each who were absent resulting in 1 male dog present plus 3 bitches - 2 in one class and another standing alone.

Best Bitch and Best of of Breed was awarded to Diane and Paige Spencer's homebred Padiky Starr Studded Skye JW with Steve, Jeanette and Emily Green's Netherlands import Matthias Vom Durrbachler Wald At Waldershelf declared Best Dog. Congratulations.
